Our Standards are Genetically Tested!

Many breeders today confuse individual testing of their dogs for genetic testing. X-rays of hips, evaluation of eye sight on individual parents ONLY confirms that the parent does not have any current signs present of genetic disease. No matter what other breeders tell you, this DOES NOT confirm that genetic markers for these diseases are not present. True genetic testing will only do this.

We genetically test our dogs through Genetic Veterinary Services INC. Testing includes markers for:

-Degenerative Myelopathy

-Neonatal encephalopathy with seizures

-Progressive retinal atrophy, Progressive rod-cone degeneration

-Von Willebrand disease I

-GM2 Gangliosidosis (poodle type)

-Osteochondrodysplasia

There currently is no genetic testing for predisposition to cancer. Cancers in dogs are mainly attributed to vaccines, medications, and diet. Being informed about the side effects versus benefits of routine medications and a healthy diet, can help to ensure your friend of a life free from cancer.
